The San Antonio Spurs made a blockbuster trade this year, acquiring All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings.

Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists in 17 games with San Antonio before undergoing season-ending left pinkie finger surgery.

The Spurs missed the playoffs this year for the sixth straight season. They went 34-48 and finished 13th in the Western Conference standings.

Fox is eligible to sign an extension with the Spurs this offseason. The lefty told Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle that he hopes to agree to an extension with San Antonio this summer.

“I would definitely hope so,” Fox said.

Fox was the fifth overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft out of Kentucky. He has career averages of 21.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists with the Kings and Spurs.

ESPN's Bobby Marks expects Fox and the Spurs to come to terms on a four-year, $229 million extension this offseason.

"Fox is eligible to agree to an extension after the Finals conclude but is restricted on the amount of years and total value," Marks wrote. "The three-year, $140.2 million extension increases to four-years, $229 million starting on Aug. 3.

"What to expect: Fox signs a four-year, $229 million extension."

The Spurs appear to have a promising future with Fox and Victor Wembanyama leading the way. It will be intriguing to see if Fox and Wembanyama can lead San Antonio back to the postseason next year for the first time since 2019.

Fox and Wembanyama could have a new star teammate next season, as the Spurs have been linked to Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo in trade rumors.
