The San Antonio Spurs earned a crucial win on Thursday night, shifting some of the focus away from the unfortunate news surrounding their franchise player, Victor Wembanyama.

The 21-year-old star had just completed his first NBA All-Star Game when, days later, multiple tests revealed he has deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. The diagnosis will now sideline him for the remainder of the season, putting a significant hurdle in the Spurs' efforts to secure a play-in spot in the competitive Western Conference.

Despite the somber news, newly acquired star guard De'Aaron Fox delivered a strong message during his interview with TNT after the team's win, making it clear that the Spurs remain focused on pushing forward.

"First and foremost, obviously he's a very down-to-earth guy," Fox said. "He's been in the spotlight for a long time, so you just wish for him to be healthy, period. It doesn't matter if he can play basketball or not, you just want him to be healthy."

He continued, "For us, we have to come together. Obviously, he's a very unique player, and no one person is going to be able to replace the production he gave us. So, we have to come together and do it as a team. Every time we step foot on the court, we're trying to win, regardless of who's out there."

This season, Wembanyama was the front-runner for Defensive Player of the Year, averaging 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and an impressive 3.8 blocks per game.

Replicating that level of production is unrealistic for the Spurs, but with the addition of Fox, they now have a player who has shown the capabilities of leading a team to victories, as he demonstrated Thursday night.

Fox finished with 26 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and two blocks. On the season, he is averaging 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
