Dejounte Murray logs triple-double, leads Spurs to 157-153 win in 2OT

Dejounte Murray played well enough in the first half of the season to earn his first career All-Star appearance. He came out of the break ready to show that wasn't a fluke and to do whatever it took to lead his team to a win.

Murray logged 31 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists on Friday, powering the Spurs to a 157-153 marathon win over the Wizards in double overtime. It was his 12th triple-double of the season, the second-most of anyone in the NBA.

After an even first quarter in which the Wizards took a 33-30 lead, the scoring pace ramped up even further in the second. San Antonio got the better of Washington this time, though, going into halftime with a 75-71 lead.

The Wizards clawed back a bit in the third, trailing 101-100 at the end of the quarter. The teams did not slow down offensively, as with just over a minute to play Murray put the Spurs up 130-122. Deni Avdija answered with a jumper, though, then after an empty San Antonio possession, Kyle Kuzma hit a pair of free throws to make it a one-score game.

The next time down, Murray missed a jumper that would've extended the Spurs' lead to two possessions. The Wizards called timeout, then out of the break gave the ball to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope who hit a layup to tie the game. Murray shot a three near the buzzer but missed, and the Wizards couldn't get a shot off.

Both teams came out firing in overtime, but got quiet near the end. Murray hit a three with 25.6 seconds left to put the Spurs up two, but Raul Neto made a layup seconds later to tie it with 18.3 left on the clock. Neither team scored the rest of the way, sending it to a second overtime.

Washington ground out a quick three-point lead just over a minute into the game, but Lonnie Walker IV made a layup and Jakob Poeltl scored a deuce to reclaim the lead for San Antonio. Murray hit a jumper with just over a minute to go, and Poeltl added a two the next time down to make it a five-point game. Murray hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to ice it.

Murray's 31 points were second to just Keldon Johnson on the Spurs, as he finished with 32. Poeltl added 28 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, and Walker scored 23 off the bench.

Kuzma led all scorers with 36, also logging eight rebounds and seven assists. Caldwell-Pope had 24, and Neto finished with 22 points and nine assists.
