Dennis Schroder Made Rudy Gobert And Elie Okobo Look Like Fools With A Smart Move: "Lakers Must Sign Him As Soon As Possible"

The NBA is less than a month away from the start of training camp, as team rosters look to be finalized for the 2022-23 season. There will be plenty of roster changes through the year but it looks like the training camp rosters for almost every team in the league are already set.

Even if that is the case, many former NBA players are still vying for spots on any of the 30 teams in the league. This includes the likes of Dennis Smith Jr., Montrezl Harrel, and Dennis Schroder, who is currently playing for Germany in EuroBasket 2022.

The 2020 runner-up in Sixth Man of the Year voting, Schroder is the leader of Germany and will be crucial for their hopes of a strong performance at EuroBasket 2022.

He delivered in a big way by helping the Germans upset tournament favorites France. Schroder put on a show to get 11 points and 5 assists, including this beautiful move on 3-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Rudy Gobert and former Suns guard Elie Okobo.

Schroder rejected an $84 million contract from the Lakers in 2021 as he was vying for a $100 million contract. He ended up tanking his value in the 2021 Playoffs and had to sign with the Boston Celtics on the $6 million mid-level exception. However, he was traded midway through the season after really poor performances. He saw the season out with the Houston Rockets and is now awaiting a contract by an NBA team.

He has been linked to the LA Lakers so far, but strong performances in EuroBasket could help him get more offers. Schroder had dropped a FIBA-record 38 points in a European Qualifier earlier this offseason and now has a massive spotlight on him as he is one of the leaders of this German squad.

A dazzling move like that on a former NBA guard and the 3-time DPOY should get some teams perking up and noticing his play. While Schroder has had a tough few seasons, he still may have a lot to offer to teams like the Dallas Mavericks that still need a backup guard behind Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie. Schroder has thrived as a backup before and could do so again in the right situation.
