The Sacramento Kings entered free agency with a clear plan in place as they were searching for a new starting point guard.

Of course, the Kings struggled at the point guard position in the second half of last season after trading away De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline.

Because of this, Sacramento entered the offseason in need of a new starting point guard and after meeting with both Dennis Schroder and Russell Westbrook to begin free agency, they were able to sign one of their targets.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Kings signed Schroder to a three-year, $45 million contract on Tuesday.

This is a massive signing for the Kings as they now add a starting point guard to their roster and they were also able to hold onto Malik Monk despite rumors that the Detroit Pistons were trying to add him in a potential sign-and-trade for Schroder.

By signing with the Kings, Schroder made NBA history as Sacramento will be the 10th different franchise he has played for, which is the most by an international player in league history, breaking a tie with Marco Belinelli.

Of course, Schroder began his career in 2013 when the Atlanta Hawks selected him 13th overall in the draft.

He then spent the first five seasons of his career in Atlanta before spending time with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets and Toronto Raptors.

Last season, the 31-year-old guard began the season with the Brooklyn Nets before they shipped him to the Golden State Warriors, who then traded him to the Pistons at the trade deadline as part of the Jimmy Butler trade.

Now Schroder joins his 10th different franchise by signing with the Kings where he should enter next season as their new starting point guard as they try to turn things around after a disappointing season last year.
