Dennis Schroder Reacts On 'Rejecting $84 Million From Lakers To Being Traded 4 Times In 2 Months'

Dennis Schroder has had quite the journey since turning down an $84 million contract extension from the Los Angeles Lakers in 2021. The German point guard, who has played for six teams in the past four years, recently responded to criticism about his decision and the subsequent trades that have made him one of the most moved players in the NBA.

After ClutchPoints posted about his frequent trades and financial decisions, Schroder fired back on Instagram, stating:

"You don’t have a clue & just putting stuff out to get some likes. You talking about my pockets.. I'm good forever, my kids good forever, my kids' kids good forever. You have an IG account for your full job. I bet you you don’t have 50k in your bank account.

Post stuff what helps the people & not what makes them look bad, especially when it’s not true. Same sh*t what you said about Bron with the PJ ‍♂️."

The Instagram post has since been deleted, but it remains on X (Twitter), where ClutchPoints noted that Schroder turned down a massive contract with the Lakers four years ago, only to bounce around the league and sign much smaller deals.

Schroder isn't hurting financially -- he's currently in the second season of a 2-year, $26 million dollar deal he originally signed with the Raptors.

Schroder's recent journey has been chaotic. He was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Golden State Warriors in December. Then, the Warriors included him in the blockbuster Jimmy Butler trade, sending him to the Miami Heat. The Heat then rerouted him to the Utah Jazz, who eventually shipped him off to the Detroit Pistons.

Since rejecting the Lakers' offer, Schroder has played for multiple teams, signing relatively small contracts compared to the one he turned down:

- $5.9 million, with the Boston Celtics (2021-22)

- $2.6 million, with the Los Angeles Lakers (2022-23)

- $26 million, with the Toronto Raptors (2023-2025)

Despite the constant movement, Schroder insists that he is financially secure and that his decision-making shouldn’t be scrutinized. But, the reality is that turning down $84 million only to be bounced around the league has led to fans and analysts questioning whether he made the right call.

Now with the Pistons, Schroder has an opportunity to prove his worth again. However, given his recent track record of being a trade chip, it wouldn’t be shocking if he finds himself on another team before too long.
