Dennis Schroder reportedly rejects four-year, $84 million extension from Lakers

Dennis Schroder reportedly turned down a lucrative contract extension offer from the Los Angeles Lakers, as he expects to make even more money as a free agent after the season.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst discussed the extension and subsequent rejection on his podcast, "The Hoop Collectiive," saying that it's not entirely clear if the extension was fully guaranteed or not.

"What I have been told, and this rumor is pretty widely out there so I doubt this is very surprising, is it the Lakers did indeed offer him that $84 million over four years," Windhorst said. "Now this is where we get into gray area: Was it fully guaranteed? Was it partially guaranteed? Were there incentives?"

Schroder's current contract expires after this season, and it has been reported that he would like to earn well over $20 million per year on his next contract. He is likely to generate a healthy amount of interest in free agency, as Schroder has averaged 15.4 points, 4.9 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game this season.

Of course, none of this means that Schroder won't end up back with the Lakers next season but if they want him back, they are likely going to have to up their offer or risk losing him.
