The 2025-26 NBA season will be the first full campaign for the Denver Nuggets under the leadership of David Adelman.
David Adelman took over the head coaching duties last season after the Denver Nuggets abruptly fired long-time coach Michael Malone.
Initially, Adelman was given an interim job, but he earned a full-time contract after leading the Nuggets to the Western Conference Finals, albeit losing at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Now, ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season, the Nuggets are seemingly doing their best to bolster Adelman’s staff.
After retiring in 2021, Jared Dudley immediately transitioned into an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks.
He has enjoyed a stellar four-year spell under head coach Jason Kidd, but it seems like the Mavs are ready to part ways with Dudley.
“Denver has secured permission to interview Dallas’ Jared Dudley for David Adelman’s staff, league sources say,” Marc Stein reported.
He added: “Dudley already had interest from Memphis and Cleveland after Phoenix interviewed him as part of its HC search.”
While the Nuggets have only secured an interview with Dudley, it shows that the Mavs are willing to run the risk of their assistant coach leaving the organization.
Even with the Mavs welcoming Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick, the top brass continues to show signs of failure in retaining top talent behind the curtains.
In case things don’t work out with Dudley, Stein reported that the Nuggets already have a backup ready. It’s none other than former Maverick J.J. Barea.
“The Nuggets, I’m told, have also shown strong interest in ex-Mavericks guard J.J. Barea for a spot on Adelman’s staff. Barea has been HC for multiple teams in his native Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional,” Stein stated.
The Nuggets finished as the fourth seed in the Western Conference last season. But with Adelman at the helm, the organization is seemingly doing everything in its power to ensure it improves.
The ultimate goal for the Nuggets would undoubtedly be to lift the illustrious Larry O’Brien trophy once again in the Nikola Jokic era.
