The Denver Nuggets have been one of the hottest teams in the NBA over the past few months, but they received some disappointing injury news on Tuesday.
Denver has won seven of their last 10 games and currently sit third in the Western Conference standings with a 39-22 record.
Led by MVP frontrunner Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets have looked like a championship contender this season after their slow start, but they will be without one of their key reserve players for an extended period.
On Tuesday, the Nuggets announced that Julian Strawther will be re-evaluated in four weeks after suffering a left knee sprain. Denver said that he suffered the injury in Sunday’s loss to the Boston Celtics.

This is a massive loss for the Nuggets, especially with them expected to get Peyton Watson back from injury on Wednesday when they host the Sacramento Kings. Of course, Watson also missed over a month of the season due to a knee sprain and Strawther has now suffered the exact same injury.
Strawther has had a great sophomore season thus far as his role has increased in Denver. Not only has the 22-year-old forward become one of Denver’s most productive players off the bench, but he has even fit well in the starting lineup when he has been asked to do so.
This season, Strawther is averaging 9.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 43.4% from the field and 35.7% from three-point range. He has continued to build off of his rookie campaign last season and has turned into a key piece for the Nuggets.
While this is terrible news for the Nuggets, especially with the way their bench has struggled this season, at least they will have Watson back to fill the void left by Strawther off the bench.
With just a little over a month left to go in the season, Strawther’s injury comes at a terrible time for the Nuggets as he could possibly miss the beginning of the playoffs if he is not cleared in time.
