Denver Nuggets: Michael Malone Virtually Admits 1 Scary Anthony Edwards Outlook After Game 1 Loss
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The single biggest thorn in the side of the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves is no other than Anthony Edwards. The young Timberwolves star punished the Nuggets for 43 points on 17/29 shooting from the field in Minnesota’s 106-99 road win in Game 1 of the series.

Denver Nuggets’ Michael Malone Accepts the Anthony Edwards Reality in the Series

“He’s going to get his,” Malone said (via Harrison Wind DNVR Sports) of Edwards, who has been unstoppable in the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

Edwards is undoubtedly a big reason for the success the Timberwolves are having in the playoffs. However, Malone also seemed to indicate that Edwards doesn’t bother him as much as the other guys on Minnesota’s roster. Malone appears to have long accepted that Edwards will be the one constant force in the series, so what worries him more is someone like Mike Conley Jr. having a field day against Denver’s defense just like in the series opener.

“If you allow Conley and Towns and Naz Reid to have the impact they had in the 2nd half, that’s going to make it really problematic,” Malone said. “I’m worried more about the other guys.”

Conley chipped in 14 points on 5/8 shooting with three 3-pointers in Game 1, while Naz Reid came off the bench and fired 16 points on 7/11 shooting.

At the end of the day, Edwards is who the Timberwolves’ offense will revolve around, so the Nuggets still need to find a way to slow the former No. 1 overall pick down. It’s a tough assignment but an important one for Denver, which had not lost a Game 1 of the series since 2023 until last Saturday at the hands of the Timberwolves.
