Denver Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr. Apologizes to Teammates for Poor Game 7 Performance vs T’Wolves
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Nuggets were one of the more disappointing teams this postseason. The defending champions managed to win three consecutive games despite starting the second round two games down against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

All they had to do after Game 5 was win one more game to get one step closer to defending their title. However, they couldn’t contain Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns as the duo brute-forced their way to a dramatic Game 7 finish where the Nuggets lost by seven points.

The Nuggets have issues to address as they head to the offseason. Jamal Murray will address plenty of those questions as he promises to make up for his disappointing display against the Timberwolves. He already made a bold claim about his approach next season which should excite fans.

However, one more player on the roster must step up after his most recent performances left plenty to be desired.

Michael Porter Jr. apologizes to Denver Nuggets teammates for subpar performance in series vs Minnesota

Michael Porter Jr. was supposed to be one of the biggest anchors for the Nuggets against the Timberwolves. The young forward played a solid regular season, and it was fair for the fans to expect more of the same for him.

However, his performance during the seven-game series against the Timberwolves took a nosedive. It was obvious from his stats that he struggled to find his footing against Minnesota.

He exited the series with only 10.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assists. It was a far cry from his regular-season performance (16.7 points, 7.0 boards, 1.5 assists) and his dominant display against the Los Angeles Lakers (22.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists).

Understanding how abysmal his efforts were in the second, round, he called himself accountable for his shortcomings in the series:

It’s hard to argue against Porter’s point when you look at Game 7’s final score. The narrative would have been entirely different if the Missouri product stepped up during the most important moments.

There are multiple reasons why Michael Porter Jr. failed to show up for the Denver Nuggets, but one thing’s for sure: he needs to be better if Denver will reach the pinnacle of pro basketball again.
