Denver Nuggets Point Guard Russell Westbrook announced Tuesday morning he underwent surgery on his right hand to fix two breaks he suffered during the 2024-25 NBA season. The former MVP point guard had an up-and-down season with the Denver Nuggets.
He played well in the 1st round of the Western Conference Playoffs but struggled in the next round against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The inconsistency between the two series is a microcosm of the player at this point in his career. While his effort is never questioned, you can never be sure which Westbrook will show up. Where will he play next season?

The point guard has a player option for the 2025-26 season with the Denver Nuggets. That means he holds the cards regarding where he will play next season. He is no stranger to playing with different NBA teams. He has spent time with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, and Los Angeles Clippers during his career. Westbrook has not indicated if he will choose to remain in Denver or test the market as a free agent.
Even though Westbrook is not the player he once was, he can still contribute to a winning team. He has been linked to teams like the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings. It will be interesting to see the veteran’s market if he declines his player option this offseason.
Westbrook’s injury is not expected to impact his availability for next season. One thing NBA fans know is that he will work hard to return to the court as early as possible.
