The Denver Nuggets continue their aggressive free agency approach with multiple blockbuster moves.

The franchise started by trading Michael Porter Jr. to Brooklyn in exchange for Cam Johnson, then re-signed versatile guard Bruce Brown who brings championship experience.

However, their most intriguing acquisition involves bringing Jonas Valanciunas as Nikola Jokic’s backup center. The Lithuanian big man previously heaped massive praise on the Serbian superstar.

Jonas Valanciunas finally gets his dream backup role behind generational talent

The Nuggets acquired Valanciunas in a deal that sent Dario Saric to Sacramento, addressing their desperate need for reliable non-Jokic minutes.

Valanciunas brings legitimate production as a backup center, averaging 10.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while splitting time between Sacramento and Washington last season.

The veteran center’s basketball intelligence and passing ability make him uniquely qualified to operate within Denver’s system.

Unlike traditional backup centers, Valanciunas understands floor spacing and ball movement principles that define the Nuggets’ identity.

Valanciunas previously declared Jokic ‘someone born once in 100 years’

The signing becomes even more compelling considering Valanciunas’s previous comments about Jokic’s exceptional talents.

The Lithuanian center called the Serbian a rare talent while praising his championship performance.

“Great player, unique. Someone like him is born once in 100 years. Last season, he showed the NBA league and the whole world, especially in the finals, what he is like, he became the MVP and took the ring,” Valanciunas said months after Denver’s championship.

He continued his praise by highlighting Jokic’s impact on the center position: “He is someone who keeps the center position alive and current, shows how important centers are not only in the NBA, but also in world basketball. He is something of a one man show.”

Valanciunas now gets his opportunity to experience ‘the greatness of playing alongside Nikola Jokic‘ after years of admiring from afar.

Tim Hardaway Jr. addition complete championship roster

The Nuggets also signed sharpshooter Tim Hardaway Jr., who enjoyed a resurgent campaign with the Detroit Pistons.

Hardaway averaged 11 points per game while shooting 36.8% from three-point range, providing the floor spacing Denver desperately needed.

These additions create the depth and shooting necessary to support Jokic’s championship window and dismiss the idea of trading him away. The combination of veteran experience and proven playoff performers positions Denver among Western Conference favorites.
