Derrick White praised one of his Boston Celtics teammates for consistently putting up great numbers for the team this season.
The Boston Celtics have certainly struggled to play championship-caliber basketball this season, with the absence of Jayson Tatum impacting them.
While certain Celtics players have stepped up in Tatum’s absence, there has been one constant for them this season in terms of performance.
The Celtics have relied on Jaylen Brown as the #1 option this season, and while the wins haven’t come easily, he has put up some strong performances.
And recently, Brown tied Larry Bird’s record for the most consecutive games with 30 points by a Boston Celtics player, achieving this feat in nine games in a row.
Derrick White spoke to reporters after the Boston Celtics lost to the Portland Trail Blazers. Despite the loss, Jaylen Brown scored 37 points.
When discussing Brown’s recent performances, White didn’t hold back, calling him an excellent leader and one of the best players in the NBA.
“He’s been unbelievable. Every night, he shows up, and big leader for us on and off the court. He’s been unbelievable all year. One of the best players in the NBA, and he’s been showing it every night.”
Brown has been a brilliant performer for the Celtics this season, averaging about 29.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.
While Jaylen Brown has been playing some elite basketball, the Boston Celtics haven’t exactly been steamrolling through the competition as they have in years past.
It’s clear that their championship aspirations depend on the return of Jayson Tatum, as his partnership with Brown elevates the Celtics to title contender status.
Brad Stevens gave a positive update on Tatum’s recovery, and there is some chatter that the former All-Star could make his return during the tail end of the NBA season.
Tatum himself has given Celtics fans hope with his social media activity. But the Celtics must be careful not to let their star player return before he is 100% healthy again.
