Controversy seems to be Stephen A. Smith’s middle name. Whether intentionally or not, he always finds himself at the center of debates. Fresh off his exchange with Josh Hart, the ESPN analyst found himself at the center of another buzz when Boston Celtics guard Derrick White unfollowed him on Twitter.
During a recent episode of First Take, Smith addressed the matter head-on, showing his usual swagger.
“I just wanna make sure that I am clear about this,” Smith said and continued, “I don’t care whether an NBA player is following me or not. I don’t care.”

Smith, who recently praised JJ Redick as coach of the year, said he doesn’t care about being unfollowed. Although the reason for the unfollow remains unclear, it seems a back-and-forth is on the horizon for Smith, as fans are eager to see White’s response.
In the world of NBA narratives, few players generate as much buzz as Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, often referred to as a “free throw merchant” for his ability to draw fouls.
After the Thunder’s recent 111-100 victory over the New York Knicks, Knicks head coach Mike Brown took a jab at the officiating, subtly directing his remarks at Gilgeous-Alexander and his team. This controversy was a hot topic on a recent episode of First Take, where Stephen A. Smith shared his thoughts on Brown’s complaints about the referees during the game.
“I’m saying, listen, you look at the Oklahoma City Thunder rather than complain about them. Don’t hate, emulate. The fact is they’re the reigning defending NBA champions. They’re clearly doing something right. Figure it out. And find a way to emulate it yourself or to dwart their efforts,” Smith said.
“New York Knicks yet to do that. And that’s why since the All-Star break, the New York Knicks are 9-0 against teams under .500 and they’re 4-7 against teams above 500. That’s less than mediocre if you’re the New York Knicks against winning teams. News flash, once the playoffs arrive, that’s who you’ll be playing, winning teams,” Smith added.

The recent loss to the Thunder marked the Knicks’ second consecutive defeat. However, this will not impact their standings, as they currently sit in third place in the Eastern Conference. Looking ahead, they will face the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center.
