Tyrese Haliburton’s devastating Game 7 injury continues dominating NBA conversations.
The Indiana Pacers star managed only seven minutes before going down in the championship-deciding contest.
Oklahoma City Thunder claimed the title after beating the Pacers in seven grueling games. However, many believe Haliburton’s early exit significantly influenced the Finals outcome.
Desmond Bane recently provided an exclusive update on his friend’s condition. The brand-new Magic guard witnessed the heartbreaking moment firsthand while attending Game 7 at the arena.
Bane described the emotional experience of seeing Tyrese Haliburton suffer the injury during basketball’s biggest stage.
The veteran guard knew immediately something was seriously wrong. “Once you saw him not getting up off the floor and the way the team and trainers were reacting, you could tell it was something serious and I was just hoping for the best for him,” Bane explained.
Bane delivered encouraging news about the All-Star’s current condition. Their recent conversations suggest Haliburton maintains good spirits despite the devastating setback.
“I was actually texting him this morning, just more about life than anything,” Bane told Zach Lowe’s podcast.
“It was hard to tell because it’s live, it’s hard to pick up on the small nuances and things like that going on.”
“He seems like he’s in decent spirits and I’m sure he’s going to attack this rehab and get back, be better,” Bane said confidently.
Bane also praised Haliburton’s selfless leadership style that defines Indiana’s success. Bane believes the point guard doesn’t receive enough credit for sacrificing personal statistics for team victories.
“I think not every team has a Tyrese Haliburton, a superstar that’s willing to get criticized for it, but shoot six shots some games, shoot 15 shots other games,” Bane explained. “That trickles down throughout the entire team.”
“You have different guys on different nights, whether it’s Siakam, Obi Toppin, Myles Turner, [Andrew] Nembhard, or [Aaron] Nesmith,” he noted.
“That stuff is hard to replicate and the only way you have that is if you have an unselfish leader and I think they don’t get enough credit for the type of people,” Bane concluded.
The Pacers will eagerly await their floor general’s return next season. And in the meantime, they also need to fix some stuff to be ready to compete again.
