'Desperately Need It' — Stephen Curry Auctions Rare Sneaker Collection For Powerful Cause

Stephen Curry has never been someone who does things halfway. The Golden State Warriors star broke up with Under Armour in November 2025 and turned his “sneaker free agency” into one of the most talked-about style runs in sports history.

He wore a different, carefully chosen pair of shoes in almost every game for the rest of the NBA season.

Curry is now turning that journey with shoes into something much more important. He is working with Sotheby’s to sell more than 70 pairs of sneakers that he wore during his record-breaking free-agency season. All the money will go to his Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation.

“For this to turn into true impact and sustainable resources for kids in Oakland that desperately need it — to me, that’s a win-win for everybody,” Curry said.

That feeling of purpose is not random. The Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation is an organization that Stephen Curry and his wife, Ayesha, started in 2019. It focuses on making sure that kids have access to nutritious food, quality education, and safe places to play.

These are all basic needs that remain severely underfunded in places like Oakland. The auction’s stakes come from the foundation.

The sneaker free agency started in November 2025, when Curry and Under Armour ended their 12-year partnership.

After that, there was a season-long shoe tour: Reebok Shaqnosis in Orlando to honor Shaquille O’Neal, Nike Sabrina 3s worn in back-to-back games to honor WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu, and the Air Jordan 12 “Flu Game” worn against the Utah Jazz, the same team Jordan wore them against in the 1997 NBA Finals.

The Nike Kobe 4 Protro “CHBL” is one of the best lots. Curry wore them the night he scored 48 points against Portland, breaking Michael Jordan’s record for the most 40-point games by a player over 30.

Those should sell for between $30,000 and $50,000, just like Curry’s custom Sabrina 3s, which have his number, initials, and the phrase “ICDAT” on them.

Stephen Curry Wore Every Shoe With a Reason This Season

Those lots aren’t just shoes, they’re the last chapters of a season that Curry wrote all by himself.

He left Under Armour after 13 years, and with that freedom, he did something no other athlete had ever done. No brand responsibilities. No scripts for marketing. Curry just picked shoes that meant something to him, game after game.

Each choice told a story. The Air Jordan 12 “Flu Game” was worn against the Utah Jazz, the same team Jordan beat in those same shoes in 1997. The Reebok Shaqnosis, which first came out in Orlando. Ionescu was sitting courtside when the Nike Sabrina 3 came out.

“When you look back at both sneaker culture and basketball history, each pair represents an iconic moment, groundbreaking athlete, or key chapter over the years in the NBA and WNBA,” Curry said.

The whole set, which includes the Kobe 6 “Mambacita,” the Kobe 4 “CHBL,” the On THE ROGER Pro Fire, and the Adidas AE 1 “Gold Medal,” is now going to Sotheby’s. An entire season. 70 pairs. A story that only you could tell.
