On Monday, the New York Knicks signed veteran forward and NBA champion PJ Tucker to a ten-day contract. While Tucker was technically a member of the Los Angeles Clippers throughout this season, he has been away from the team and has not played basketball since last season.
On the Knicks, Tucker is expected to be a productive veteran role-player who could bolster their 15th-ranked defense, although he will likely be more of a player-coach than an impact player.
Tucker is a 13-year NBA veteran and has been a high-level contributor on some very good teams. As an undersized power forward, he can rebound well and space the floor, although at 39 years old, his ability to keep up on either end of the floor could be called into question.
While he joins the team on only a ten-day deal, rumors have swirled suggesting that backroom conversations have already happened and he will agree to a standard contract after his second ten-day, when the Knicks will be able to fit him under the second apron.
PJ Tucker just had his first shootaround with the Knicks. Assuming everything goes according to plan, he expects to be around longer than 10-day. Contracts work out that Knicks will stay under second apron with two 10-day contracts before standard one.

Throughout his career, Tucker has averaged 6.6 points and 5.4 rebounds while being a versatile defender. As previously mentioned, he likely won't be an impact player for the Knicks, more of a mentor, but he could be a valuable asset if either Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart, or OG Anunoby get hurt during a playoff run, so he's just adding a steady hand off the bench with a track record that Tom Thibodeau can rely on.
