Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker has always found ways to turn personal passion into cultural moments. I covered his Nike Book 2 pop-up in Sedona earlier this year, where the shoe's colorway was inspired by the turquoise arches of the city's famous McDonald's. Now the NBA All-Star is doing it again, this time built around the cars he collects off the court.

The Inspiration

Chevy

"I've been a lifelong Chevy fan, and I truly love adding classic cars to my garage, The Library," Booker said. "Bringing together my Michigan roots and my passion for Chevy makes this project really special." That passion is the entire foundation of the Nike Book 2, a four-sneaker collaboration with Nike inspired by his own personal collection of vintage Impalas.

The Shoe

Chevy

The first release, "Pretty Penny," takes its name and color scheme straight from Booker's 1959 Chevrolet Impala convertible, the car that started his obsession with classic automobiles. It follows last year's sold-out Nike Book 1 collection, which pulled its concept from his 1972 Chevy Blazer, and continues Booker's Detroit roots into a second chapter.

Each shoe in the four-part series mirrors one of his Impalas down to the paint, with model years 58, 59, 62, and 63 marking the collection. Tongue details echo each car's hood ornament, connecting the sneaker to its specific vehicle rather than treating the car theme as a generic backdrop.

The Tech

Chevy

The packaging pulls from Chevrolet's mid-century accessories design, reworking kraft paper construction with bold teal and orange graphics and oversized lettering that feels lifted straight from a vintage parts catalog.

The collection also includes a Heartbeat of America T-shirt, named for Chevrolet's iconic advertising anthem from the 80s and 90s. Every detail in this drop, from stitching to packaging, ties back to a specific era of Chevrolet history rather than a broad automotive theme.

The Why

Chevy

Booker built his personal car collection, which he calls The Library, out of real love for these cars, not as a display of status. Chevrolet's Scott Bell called Booker's connection to the brand meaningful precisely because it comes from authentic ownership, not a licensing arrangement. That distinction defines the passion surrounding the entire project.

Where to Get It

The "Pretty Penny" colorway debuts early in Detroit on Saturday, August 15, during the Woodward Dream Cruise, a one-day celebration drawing roughly 40,000 vintage cars along Woodward Avenue.

Athletes and fans in Detroit can register through the Nike SNRKS Pass starting August 14, with winning entries picking up their pairs at Burn Rubber in Royal Oak. The shoe releases globally on August 26, with the remaining three sneakers in the collection dropping in December 2026.
