The Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker is one of the NBA’s longest-tenured players. Only Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, and Dwight Powell have been with their teams for longer.
The shooting guard has been a proud member of the Phoenix Suns since 2015, evolving from a backup at Kentucky to one of the NBA’s best shooting guards.
Booker has remained loyal to the franchise for a long time, even though his first postseason appearance was in 2021. During that run, he led the team all the way to the NBA Finals.
The Suns were two wins away from winning a championship, but Giannis Antetokounmpo’s legendary performance was enough for the Milwaukee Bucks.
Since then, Phoenix have struggled to return to the pinnacle of the playoffs, undergoing numerous changes in recent years. However, Booker has remained a constant over the years despite people’s desire to convince him to leave.
After signing a two-year contract extension that takes his deal through the 2029-30 season, Booker will be 33 when his player option kicks in. He seems to be happy playing for the Suns, even if they have not been as successful as he would like.
The Suns’ struggles are not for the lack of trying, because they have desperately tried to build a contender around him. It initially worked out with the Finals team in 2021, but that core was replaced by the trio of Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal.
This project did not succeed for the Suns’ front office and their majority owner, Mat Ishbia, as they have only advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals since then. Ishbia has since received major criticism because he was the driving force behind their commitment to Durant.
With this kind of loyalty, former NBA head coach David Fizdale believes Booker has been good enough to receive an honor from the Suns that even Steve Nash has not.
“Just being there with him, the conversations we had about how much he cares about the community, how much he loves playing there. Also knowing the other side, Mat Ishbia, Brian Gregory, how those guys feel about him, it’s a mutual love affair,” Fizdale said on NBA TV.
“Rightfully so. He’s a first-class guy, a big-time player, they got him as a kid, and you watched him grow through his whole career. He got you to the Finals; I know him, he’s still trying to figure out how to get back to that.
“I just think he’s the kind of guy you want with your franchise for his whole career. I am predicting, going out on a ledge right now, he’s gonna have a statue in Phoenix.”
Booker has been stellar to start the 2025-26 season, averaging 29.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 7.2 assists, while shooting 50% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc.
The Suns are still not the contending team they once were, but they look better than last season, when the trio of Durant, Beal, and Booker failed to meet expectations.

Now that the Suns face lower expectations, they appear ready to surprise people. This was evidenced by their win against the San Antonio Spurs, which handed their opponents their first loss of the season.
Suns legend Charles Barkley thinks Booker is in a good situation because he is playing for a team and city that adore him while earning a huge salary. It might not lead to many big wins, but he will be remembered as an iconic athlete in Phoenix history.
