Did Kevin Durant take a shot at his teammates after loss to Knicks?

Kevin Durant may have taken a thinly veiled shot at his Phoenix Suns teammates. During a news conference following the Suns' loss to the New York Knicks on Friday, Durant praised how the Knicks roster supports Jalen Brunson. His comments were focused on how New York continues to feed Brunson when he's got a hot shooting hand.

"That's his franchise, so they're all there to support him and put him in the best position he can be," Durant said. "...They all support him. They put in sets for him. They run plays for him. When he gets hot, they continue to get him the ball. So tonight was one of those nights for him."

Brunson ended the game against Phoenix with 50 points, nine assists, six rebounds and five steals, shooting 73.9% from the field and 100% from three-point range. Durant's comments could be taken as a message to his teammates. Phoenix has three All-Star-caliber scorers in its starting lineup. As such, there is a significant amount of isolation basketball within the team's offensive system.

Durant is arguably the greatest scorer in NBA history. He has been a top-five player in the league for the past decade. He knows he should be at the top of the food chain with the Suns. Perhaps he wants Phoenix to do more in terms of getting him quality shooting opportunities. Maybe he expects to have the ball more when he's on a scoring streak. Having a disgruntled star was always a risk when the Suns opted to acquire Bradley Beal during the summer. There are a lot of mouths to feed within the current offense.

Of course, Durant could have just been paying homage to an incredible performance from Brunson. After all, he did claim the Knicks guard could become a Hall of Fame player based on his recent performance level. Yet, with all of the talent in the Suns locker room, it definitely felt like a message was being sent. Durant is the alpha on that team, and he should be treated as such whenever he's on the court.

This season, the 35-year-old forward is averaging 30.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.6 assists, shooting 51.8% from the field and 48% from three-point range. That level of production ensures that Durant's voice and any messaging he sends have to be taken seriously. Suns fans will be hoping that these comments are nothing more than some passing thoughts and not a sign of deeper issues within the roster. Only time will tell.
