Dillon Brooks’ Financial Loss Revealed Amid One Game Suspension

While Dillon Brooks is enjoying a breakout year in his first season with the Phoenix Suns, he has also drawn plenty of scrutiny from NBA officials. The veteran forward leads the league in technical fouls, and after picking up his 16th of the season against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, he has been suspended for one game.

Brooks’ 16th technical was a surprising one. According to the 30-year-old, it wasn’t the result of an outburst, but rather because official Jason Williams told him he was playing the victim too much.

A 16th technical foul automatically triggers a one-game suspension, which the NBA officially confirmed on Thursday.

“Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks has been suspended one game without pay for receiving his 16th technical foul of the 2025-26 season, it was announced today by James Jones, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations,” said the league in a statement, per NBA Communications on X.

The one-game suspension without pay will cost Brooks $121,403, which is 1/174th of his $21,124,110 salary. He will also be fined $5,000 under the league's technical foul rules. Additionally, the Suns will receive a 50% tax variance credit, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

While Brooks has long embraced a villain persona, he has shown increasing frustration with officials this season and doubled down on his criticism after Wednesday’s game.

"I had a ref tell me that I play the victim, so I ain't talking no more about that," he said postgame.

Brooks will now have to tread carefully. Under league rules, he will receive another one-game suspension without pay for every two additional technical fouls he accumulates this regular season.

Despite the tension with referees, Brooks is having the best season of his career, averaging a career-high 21.2 points per game, along with 3.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 steals. He will serve his suspension when the Suns return from the All-Star break to face the San Antonio Spurs on February 19.
