According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Boston Celtics will make major changes to their roster offseason. The only question is how massive those changes will be, which will all depend on what they might be able to get back for an All-Star like Jaylen Brown.
“They’re going to make trades. The Boston Celtics will have a much different roster next season,” Charania said, via Chris Bengel of CBS Sports. “They’ll definitely have a different roster, but the question is how severe the movement will be. You can’t trade Jayson Tatum. That’s the face of your franchise. After that, it’s really going to depend on what kind of value you can get.”
Most expect the Atlanta Hawks to at least attempt to swing big this offseason for Giannis Antetokounmpo or Kevin Durant, the latter of whom the Hawks were connected to at this past trade deadline. But those two will be the most sought after stars this offseason if made available, with both the Spurs and Rockets likely capable of putting together more enticing trade packages.
Jaylen Brown wouldn’t be a consolation prize, however. A four-time All-Star and Finals MVP from a year ago, he’s proven he can be a high-level second option on a team with championship aspirations, which should be the goal of the offseason for the Hawks. It also doesn’t hurt that he hails from Atlanta, leading the Wheeler Wildcats to a state championship during his high school career.
Derrick White would also be an intriguing option to add to the Hawks backcourt mix alongside Trae Young and Dyson Daniels, given his playmaking and defensive ability. And to a lesser degree, Jrue Holiday; although, he’s owed nearly $38 million next season and will be pushing 36-years-old.
