Domantas Sabonis has seen the Kings go through their share of NBA highs and lows during his time in Sacramento. But appears to be all-in on new head of basketball operations Scott Perry and the team’s direction.

“I think Scott’s done a great job so far, and he’s trying to turn things around just like everyone else,” Sabonis said of general manager Scott Perry during his youth basketball camp in Roseville, via ABC 10’s Matt George.

He also hinted that more moves could be coming before the team opens camp.

“A lot has changed; a lot’s probably still gonna change, so we’re just gonna wait and see ’til training camp,” he said.

One addition Sabonis is especially encouraged by is veteran point guard Dennis Schroder. Sacramento needed a floor leader after trading De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs in a deal that brought Zach LaVine and Sidy Cissoko to the Kings.

“Right now, we have a starting caliber point guard. Dennis is very talented,” Sabonis said.

He also praised the Kings’ young talent after Summer League, noting that he hosted Isaac Jones and rookie Maxime Raynaud in Napa Valley to work out together ahead of the season.

Sabonis has a close connection with Doug Christie, who moved from interim head coach to the permanent role this summer.

“He was in there with me those three summers, every day in the gym,” Sabonis said with a smile. “I’ve seen how hard he works, so for him to have this opportunity, the fans love him, he’s one of us here. So I think it’s going to be very exciting.”

Asked about fellow Lithuanian big man Jonas Valanciunas being traded to Denver, Sabonis said, “We know where all these decisions come from. It’s sad to see a friend leave, but at the same time, you understand. I’m happy for him; he’s with the Nuggets now, the top team in the West, and all he wants to do is win. I know he’s happy.”

Sabonis believes a full training camp will give Christie a chance to design a system that maximizes the skills of the team’s new core, which of course includes LaVine and DeMar DeRozan.

After wrapping up his camp, Sabonis said he planned to head to Los Angeles to work out with several teammates, hinting that DeRozan would be among them.
