Riding high after surprisingly trading for James Harden, Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell wants to play well in the All-Star game. With Cleveland racking up wins heading to the mid-season break, there was a big chance that Mitchell might strive for the game’s MVP. He’s become one of the best players in the league after the trade deadline.
After beating the World Team, which went 0-2 in the new format, Mitchell and his squad of veterans positioned themselves to have a shot at winning it all in the championship match. However, his team came up short in the final game against a much younger, hungrier team.
When interviewed about the loss, Donovan Mitchell threw a shade – albeit in a joking manner – on why his team lost in the final game of the day.
“Our age caught up to us in the second game, not all of us because I’m under 30, but you know…” the Cavs star bluntly answered.

For additional context, the old guys he implied during the interview were LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Kawhi Leonard. All four have won at least one All-Star Game MVP in the past.
Maybe their old legs grew tired in the second game? Whatever the reason was, Donovan Mitchell wasn’t too happy about the loss.
Due to his uncertain future in LA, rumors that LeBron James will return to the Cleveland Cavaliers to finish his career are growing louder. But are Cavs players open to that possibility? Mitchell shared his thoughts about the reports in a recent interview.
“As a Bron fan, to be able to be a teammate, that would obviously be special, but that’s not something in my control. I control what we got here. There’s always going to be reports; that’s natural, it’s gonna be a thing,” Donovan Mitchell said.
If the Cavs retain most of the lineup in the offseason, then there’s no doubt that James would view that team as a championship-caliber squad. And Mitchell is open to the possibility of teaming up with LeBron.
