Double Vision: Hawks’ Clint Capela specializes in glasswork

This space aims to identify players who represent good value for recording a double-double in a particular game. If they post double-digit totals in any two of the five main categories (points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals), backers will at least double their money – and sometimes make much more than that.

The bet: A double-double for Hawks center Clint Capela (+180 DraftKings)

When his team faced the Heat in the opening round of the playoffs last year, Capela missed the first three games with a knee injury. He then returned in a diminished capacity, playing only about 20 minutes and scoring just two points in each of the final two contests as Atlanta was eliminated. Still, his rebound numbers (seven and eight) remained solid.

Since joining the Hawks in 2020, Capela has started five regular-season games versus the Heat and recorded a double-double every time. In four of the five, he collected at least 13 boards. Not coincidentally, Miami has generally been a poor rebounding team over that span, ranking inside the bottom 10 each season.

Against the Hornets in last year’s initial play-in game, Capela posted a monster line of 15 points and 17 rebounds. He also added three blocks, three assists, and a pair of steals. Hoping to help his team advance to a first-round series with the Celtics, the big man should be very prominent in the paint once again.
