Double Vision: Hawks’ Trae Young answers his critics

This space aims to identify players who represent good value for recording a double-double in a particular game. If they post double-digit totals in any two of the five main categories (points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals), backers will at least double their money – and sometimes make much more than that.

The bet: A double-double for Hawks guard Trae Young (+170 DraftKings)

Between ranking at the top of an anonymous player poll and hearing derisive chants from Celtics fans, Young has been getting slapped with the “overrated” label lately. He certainly underperformed as Atlanta dropped the two games in Boston, averaging 20 points and seven assists after posting 26.2 and 10.2 during the regular season.

But now Young and the Hawks are at home, where ancillary players tend to perform better. He totaled 31 potential assists over those first two games, and his teammates should be able to convert more of them in the familiar environs of State Farm Arena. Young dished out an average of 10.7 dimes there during the regular season.

They say it’s not a series until you lose on your home court, but the Celtics won each playoff game by 13 points and have beaten the Hawks in all five meetings this season. Playing with a sense of desperation, Young figures to produce as both a scorer and a distributor.
