This space aims to identify players who represent good value for recording a double-double in a particular game. If they post double-digit totals in any two of the five main categories (points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals), backers will at least double their money – and sometimes make much more than that.
The bet: A double-double for Timberwolves forward Karl-Anthony Towns (+210 DraftKings)
For the first seven years of his career, Towns was an elite center who averaged 23.2 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. But this has been a season of adjustment and adversity, as he was moved to power forward following the acquisition of Rudy Gobert and then missed more than 50 games with a calf injury.
Although Towns hasn’t recorded a double-double since last November, tonight’s game in Brooklyn seems like a return-to-form spot. Minnesota has lost three consecutive games and needs a strong finish to solidify its place in the postseason. And with backup big man Naz Reid sidelined by a broken wrist, Towns should see even more rebound chances than the 13.7 he has averaged over his last four games.
Having grown up in New Jersey, Towns has the added motivation of playing well in front of family and friends. His last road game against the Nets was a narrow loss just over two years ago, but he posted 31 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.
A similar effort resulting in a win would be an ideal homecoming.
