Draymond Green calls out media over Klay Thompson narrative

Another day, another fiery take from Draymond Green, and this time, it’s about Klay Thompson.

The outspoken Golden State Warriors power forward had something to get off his chest about his former Dubs teammate Klay Thompson’s outlook with the Miami Heat, particularly what he sees as an unfair narrative created by the media.

Draymond seems to believe that the media is setting Thompson up for criticism by generating unrealistic offseason hype.

“I don’t like how everybody’s trying to act like, ‘Oh man, it’s Klay Thompson’ like Klay to the Heat, like this is Klay of 2018,” Green said during a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show.” 

The former NBA Defensive Player of the Year made it clear that people need to dial back their expectations for Thompson.

“The reason I don’t like it is because I feel like everybody’s trying to set Klay up for failure. And so, I’m going to say it right here, right now. Let’s stop acting like 2017 Klay is going to Miami, Green continued.

“Don’t try to set my brother up like you about to get the 2017 Klay so, the moment you don’t, y’all can bash him. That’s bulls—t. He’s going into Year 16 of his career. We obviously know the injuries that he’s faced.”

Green knows a lot about Thompson, as the two helped Golden State win four NBA titles. He also knows that Thompson is no longer the player he used to be during the best days of Golden State’s dynasty in the late 2010s.

Injuries (and age) have greatly diminished Thompson’s abilities on the court, but he can still provide excellent spacing for a shooter-needy Miami squad.

Over the last two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, Thompson averaged 12.9 points and shot 38.7% from deep.
