Draymond Green Calls Out ‘Ridiculous’ Bronny James Haters

From the moment he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2024, Bronny James has been under an intense microscope due to his father LeBron James being on the team. They would become the first father-son duo to share a court together in NBA history and Bronny has undoubtedly developed since entering the league.

Even still, there are some who feel the only reason he is in the NBA is because of his father. But Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green recently called out the hate that Bronny has gotten, pointing to the fact that plenty others in positions of power get their children in the door all the time.

“So, I thought it was ridiculous when people said that about Bronny. I thought it was ridiculous,” Green said on the LaVar Ball Show. “People tried to make it out as if LeBron James did him a disservice. Like, when has anyone in the NBA ever done anyone a disservice that you got to the NBA? So, I thought all of that stuff was blasphemous. If you can help your child, sign me up. Sign me up. Not that having five kids makes me more of a father than the next man. But sign me up.  Like, no-brainer… You look at NBA front offices, you look at NBA ownership groups, and you got a lot of kids. And I say kids, as far as the children of owners running teams. I don’t say kid in the literal sense of a kid. But they’re running teams. And they didn’t start off in the video room. They didn’t start off as a scout. And by the way, even if you did start off in the video room, that’s a still a foot in the door and you got your foot in the door differently than the other guy that came through the video room.

“Needless to say, since the beginning of time, people have helped out their own… There’s a way to teach your kid resilience. There’s a way to teach your kid to go after something and pursue a goal. There’s all these ways to do it… That doesn’t necessarily mean for me personally, or for the next person for that matter, that they can’t be there for their kids or that they’re spoiling their kid. Like, no, man. I worked my ass off to be in this position so that you don’t have to work as hard to do the same thing. Now granted, you always have to work hard and you gotta take things to the next level. You gotta carry your weight. But yeah, I’m moving my kid to the front of the line but I’m also gonna prepare my kid to be ready.”

Not just in sports, but in all different facets of the world, people in positions of power do things to benefit their children and Green surely isn’t the only NBA player, current or former, who would do the same for his kids if he had the opportunity.

Bronny was never expected to be a superstar like his father as he was the 55th pick in the draft. But he has grown as a player and had real moments of success in the NBA and that can’t be taken away from him, regardless of who is dad is.

Bronny is set to enter his third season and hopes to earn a rotation spot on the Lakers. But he is getting ready for the upcoming year, working out with All-Star Darius Garland and former Laker Jordan Clarkson.
