It's been months since the Houston Rockets and the Golden State Warriors crossed paths in the 2025 NBA Playoffs, but that series is still being talked about. Discussions about that first-round matchup were sparked anew following a statement made by Rockets star big man Alperen Sengun.
During a recent appearance on the "Socrates Dergi" podcast, Sengun spoke about the Warriors' physicality and his perception of Golden State as a team that whines about missed foul calls in the playoffs.
"They're a very experienced team," Şengün said (h/t Vince Lontz of NBC Sports Bay Area). "They fouled a lot. In the playoffs, they don't call it. But they were the ones crying all series about fouls not being called."
Sengun also talked about the different ways the Rockets deal with the referees.
"When it comes to us, we're not really allowed to complain," Sengun shared. "It's more of an internal thing. Ime Udoka doesn't allow it. He loses his mind if we complain."
Green eventually found out about what Sengun said about the Warriors.
"Hold that L," the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year wrote in a post on Threads as a reaction to Sengun's comment on Golden State.
Green and the Warriors entered the Rockets series as the underdog in terms of seedings. They made the 2025 NBA Playoffs as the No. 7 seed after going 48-34 in the regular season and beating the Memphis Grizzlies in the Play-In Tournament.
The Rockets, on the other hand, got the homecourt advantage in the first round thanks to a 52-30 record. Only the Oklahoma City Thunder, who eventually won the 2025 NBA title, had a better record than Sengun and the Rockets.
Golden State won three of the first four games of the series before the Rockets stormed back with back-to-back wins in Game 5 and Game 6. In Game 7, despite playing in enemy territory at Toyota Center in Houston, the Warriors blew out the Rockets to the tune of a 103-89 score.
The Warriors were called for a total of 150 personal fouls through seven games, while the Rockets picked up just 124 personal fouls.
Golden State and Houston have so far met in five NBA Playoffs series, with the Warriors winning all of them. The Warriors have also won 20 of the 30 games in the all-time playoff matchup versus the Rockets, with each of the last three series lasting at least six contests.
Perhaps the most memorable of them all was the Warriors' Game 7 win against the Rockets in the Western Conference finals, where Houston infamously missed 27 consecutive 3-pointers . The Warriors would go on to sweep LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2018 NBA Finals.
