Draymond Green gets candid about possibility of Warriors trading him and Klay Thompson

Among the NBA’s most successful trios, none have won more NBA Finals games than Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, who, with their 2022 title run, surpassed the iconic Spurs trio of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili and their 19 Finals wins.

The Golden State trio is also currently third on the list of most NBA playoff victories — trailing Duncan, Parker and Ginobili (126) and the Lakers trio of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Cooper and Magic Johnson (110) — with 98 wins over the last decade or so.

Could their playoff win total end two shy of 100?

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Warriors are open to trading everyone on the roster but Stephen Curry, creating the real possibility of Thompson, Green or both entering an NBA game without Curry on their roster.

On "The Draymond Green Show," Green spoke on the sobering reality of the Warriors breaking up the Big 3, admitting that GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. would be justified to explore trades due to Golden State’s 18-22 record.

"If that [trade] ever came to fruition, you deal with that, you cross that bridge when you get there," Green said. "It’s not really something that I worry about … I mean, if you’re 18-22, how can you question anything someone does? We’ve had the opportunity to get out there and play, and prove ourselves as a team."

Green conceded that, in recent history, the Warriors have been one of the least active teams at the Feb. trade deadline — in large part due to their dynastic run. To that end, Green has never truly been thrown into trade rumors that a third of the league’s players often find themselves in.

"We’ve never really been an active team at the trade deadline. However, we also have a new GM, and Mike has been incredible. He could be different to Bob [Myers], he could be more aggressive at the trade deadline. I don’t know, I don’t really have a feel for it. Would be I shocked if some trades happen? No – we are 18 and 22, and if I'm not mistaken, with the highest payroll in the league."

The Warriors are currently 25th in defensive rating, 13th in offensive rating and 20th in net rating — a recipe for a team in the lottery. The Steve Kerr-led team would have to make a spectacular run in the second half of the season to secure a play-in spot, let alone a playoff berth.
