Draymond Green goes off on CJ McCollum and NBPA for CBA that is ‘putting an end’ to free agency

The new CBA has greatly altered NBA free agency, and Draymond Green is not happy about it, calling out the NBPA for agreeing to the deal.

NBA free agency began last week, and unlike years past, it has been a relatively quiet period. No major bombshell signings or trades have taken place.

Myles Turner shockingly signed with the Milwaukee Bucks after the franchise waived Damian Lillard, who was suffering from an Achilles injury.

Outside of this, there really haven’t been many shocking moves during this period. Teams have focused on extending their superstars and signing two-way wing players on team-friendly contracts.

The reason for this is because of the new NBA salary cap structure and aprons, and the punitive measures introduced to punish teams for crossing the dreaded first and second aprons.

But Draymond Green seems to have had enough of this situation, going off on the new CBA, the NBPA, and the state of NBA free agency.

Draymond Green says new CBA put an end to NBA Free Agency

Draymond Green took to Threads to discuss the lackluster NBA free agency period. He admitted that free agency came and went, and there were no major moves made.

He blamed the new CBA for this situation, throwing shade at NBPA president CJ McCollum and suggesting he should have had his job. Green believes the new conditions have put an end to NBA free agency. Furthermore, he lamented the impact this has had on the young players in the league.

“I’m sitting in my mancave having a conversation with my wife. Baffled at the fact that NBA free agency is over. Quite frankly, it never really started.

The level of anticipation leading up to July 1st were as exciting as the fireworks on the 4th. It was the excitement of the NBA Finals.

“Yet only a week after watching a team spray champagne and ride on floats. One can only point to the ‘New CBA’ and the 2nd apron (hard cap) for absolutely putting an end to Free Agency.

“Sadly, I sit here and watch so many players overplay the market and not understand what they are up against with the new rules. Which leads me to trying to understand the staggering percentage of guys that has no idea of THE BUSINESS they are a part of.”

“I should’ve been the Players Association president lol. I could’ve helped a lot. The league is great, it’s been great to all of us. Amazing partnership amongst players, staff, front office, ownership, and fans that make the well-oiled machine soar.

“And rightfully so, but it’s baffling to me how little players know about this business and how it affects them, and ways most don’t understand.”

Draymond Green denies frustration with CBA stemming from Jonathan Kuminga situation

Sensing the speculation about his post would be focused on his teammate, Jonathan Kuminga, not getting a contract offer in free agency, Draymond Green shut down that narrative.

“And also before y’all run and make this about JK, it isn’t. He’s 22 and will be great and make a bunch of money, so this ain’t got nothing to do with him.”

Jonathan Kuminga is a restricted free agent currently, looking to leave the Golden State Warriors. However, no NBA team has taken a chance on Kuminga yet.

The Sacramento Kings want Kuminga, but aren’t all-in on the young star. Kuminga is one of many restricted free agents yet to sign a new contract.

Cam Thomas of the Brooklyn Nets is another example of teams gambling on a player’s value to ensure they can re-sign them for the lowest amount possible.

For young NBA players who aren’t superstars, their financial futures have been impacted greatly by the new CBA.

And unfortunately for them, things are unlikely to change until a new CBA is negotiated. Any changes agreed upon won’t come into effect till the 2030-31 season.
