The Denver Nuggets dropped a 118–104 road game to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night.
Denver started fast, putting 44 points in the first quarter behind Nikola Jokić, who exploited Golden State’s smaller lineup early.
But, once Jokić went to the bench to open the second quarter, the Warriors went on a 9–0 run and took control. The Nuggets were outscored 34–19 in the second, erasing their early lead.
After going scoreless in the second, Jokić responded with 16 points in the third quarter to keep Denver within reach. But the Warrior's offense continued to click.
Brandin Podziemski, coming off a 28-point performance against the Los Angeles Lakers, hit multiple midrange jumpers and knocked down four three-pointers to keep the pressure on.
The Nuggets trailed 96–84 entering the fourth. Jimmy Butler III opened the quarter with five straight points to stretch Golden State’s lead to 13. From there, the Warriors maintained a double-digit cushion the rest of the way to seal the win.
After the game, Draymond Green opened his press conference with a quick apology.
“I’m sorry I’m giving you all the lowest energy ever; I’m exhausted,” Green said. “I sound like Klay Thompson up here.”
The Warriors had just completed three games in four nights across three cities.
Despite the loss, the Nuggets remain fourth in the Western Conference with a 47–31 record. They’ll look to bounce back as the playoff race enters its final week.
