Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green is well aware of the debate he started this week on "Inside the NBA."
While discussing the future of the Warriors, Barkley declared that their run as Western Conference contenders is over. Instead of letting Barkley have his moment, Green fired back with this controversial response: "Yeah, I mean, I think the goal is just to not look like you in the Houston Rockets uniform."
Fans didn't appreciate that remark from Green, especially since Barkley had some success in Houston.
“Aside from the fact that this is awful, awkward television, it’s also just ahistorical,” FS1’s Nick Wright wrote on social media. “In his 4 years in Houston, Chuck averaged 16-12-4, including averaging 18 & 12 during a run to the Western Conference Finals. Draymond continues to recreate history.”
During the latest episode of his self-titled podcast, Green cleared the air regarding his comments about Barkley. He said he never intended to disrespect the Hall of Famer.
"The reason that I would even say that is what Chuck makes fun about in his career is actually the last 2 years in Houston," Green said. "Everybody tried to make it like this whole 'Ahh man Draymond think he better than Chuck'... the disrespect ain't the intent so if that's the way it's viewed as public disrespect, I can gladly public apologize, disrespect wasn't my intent."
During an interview with Arizona Sports 98.7 this Friday, Barkley subtly dissed Green when asked about this potential feud.
“I never punch down,” Barkley said. “Draymond’s a good player, we’re not on the same level.”
Barkley also spoke to Dan Patrick about this situation. The 11-time All-Star didn't seem too hurt about what went down earlier this week.
“He took a shot at me, but I don’t get offended. I’ve said things about other guys. They’ve took personal shots at me,” Barkley told Dan Patrick. “The Warriors have been in the play-in four straight years. They’ve been irrelevant. I know he doesn’t want to say it. If Golden State was relevant, he wouldn’t be in the studio with me.”
Barring an absurd comment from Green in the near future, it sounds like this is all water under the bridge.
