Draymond Green pinpoints major Anthony Edwards, Timberwolves adjustment that must be made Game 2

The Western Conference Finals got started on Wednesday night as the Dallas Mavericks hit the road to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves just took down the defending champs, the Denver Nuggets, in their previous series, and they came into the WCF as the favorite. They were favored to win game one at home, but the Mavericks made a statement on the road as they won the game 108-105. Anthony Edwards had 19 points for the Timberwolves.

If the Timberwolves are going to keep going on this run, they are going to need Anthony Edwards to play at a very high level. He has been terrific in the playoffs so far, and he is a huge reason why the Timberwolves have made it this far. He will need to be big in this series.

Game one was a bit of an off game for Edwards. He was just 6/16 from the floor, and he only finished with 19 points. He is going to have to play better than that if the Timberwolves are going to win this series. Draymond Green talked about his performance on the Draymond Green Show, and Green believes there is something that will help Edwards play better for the remainder of this series.

“You got to get Ant Man off Kyrie,” Draymond Green said. “Not because Kyrie had 30 and had a great night, no not because Ant Man can’t guard him, although I don’t think anybody can guard Kyrie if I’m being honest. But because did you see Ant Man towards the end of the game? He was cooked, he could barely get up and down the floor, he was gasping for air, and I get it, you just played a tough seven game series, and then you come out two nights later, chasing old Kyrie Irving around, Uncle Drew. Well guess what, that’s a disaster, because Kyrie never stops moving and when he gets the ball, it’s downhill at you every time.”

Kyrie Irving played a great game as he finished with 30 points. Only Luka Doncic had more as he finished the game with 33. Irving made things difficult for Edwards, so changing things up a bit in game two is definitely something to consider.

The Timberwolves need to win game two

Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves came into this series as the favorite, but after losing at home in game one, things aren’t looking so good. Because of that loss, game two is essentially a must-win for Minnesota, and you never want to have that kind of pressure this early in the series.

There really aren’t real must-win games until a team is facing elimination, but game two is just about as close as it gets for the Timberwolves. If they go down 2-0 with the next two games being in Dallas, they are going to be in major trouble. They will still be in trouble even if they do win game two to even up the series. They need to get a win on Friday night.

Anthony Edwards is going to need to step up on Friday night. Game two will be back in Minnesota, and the game will get going at 8:3o ET. It will be airing on TNT, and Minnesota is currently favored by 5.5 points.
