Draymond Green Questions Ja Morant About 'Fine in the West' Comments
USA TODAY Sports

When Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant said he and his team were "fine" in the Western Conference, many around the league felt that the statement was overconfident and premature. The Grizzlies are currently 17-16 vs. the Western Conference, which is 4th-worst in the West. Only the Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, and Houston Rockets have been worse than Memphis against their own conference this season.

The remarks from Morant have been brought up repeatedly, especially with Memphis struggling against the West, and they were recently brought up again by Draymond Green. Working as an analyst for TNT during All-Star Weekend, Green interviewed Morant, and asked him if he and the Grizzlies are still "fine in the West" after Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving joined the conference.

Morant showed some respect to other teams around the conference, but stuck with his initial statement of being fine in the West. It was a playful tone from Green, despite asking the question that so many wanted an answer to, as there is a clear mutual respect between the two players.

Green shared more in-depth comments on Morant's statement in a previous podcast episode, saying, "I got a lot of love and respect for Ja - young leader that makes his guys believe whatever he believes, and that’s a very powerful thing as a leader... I'm not sure he can quite make his guys believe that one, which is 'I'm fine in the West.' You are fine, Ja. You are. But the Warriors [are] in the West now, champ. So yes, you are fine, Ja. The Grizzlies on the other hand, that's a topic for another day."
