Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has built a reputation as one of the NBA's toughest competitors. But to his teammates, he is much more than that.
The Warriors escaped with a 137-131 overtime victory over the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center on Monday. Green delivered an all-around performance, tallying 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in 38 minutes.
The win, however, was overshadowed by a devastating late-game injury to Moses Moody. The 23-year-old’s left knee gave out on him without contact.
Beyond the box score, it was Green's response in the aftermath that revealed his true character.
Moody was in the middle of a standout performance Monday, returning after missing 10 games with a wrist injury. The 23-year-old was dazzling on both ends, holding his own against Cooper Flagg. He recorded 23 points on 8-of-20 shooting and 4-of-11 from three-point range before disaster struck.
With about a minute left in overtime, Moody stole the ball and raced ahead for a breakaway dunk. However, he crashed to the floor in agony, clutching his knee, and was stretchered off the court.
As Moody was being wheeled out, Green made his way over to console his teammate. A clip of the exchange was shared by Bleacher Report on X.
"Draymond hugged Moses Moody as he was stretchered off the court after his injury. Wishing him a speedy recovery," the post read.

Fans flooded the comment section to commend Green for his response.
"The mainstream sports media has spent years desperately trying to paint Draymond as the ultimate toxic villain of the NBA. If he is actually as bad as the analysts claim, why is he always the absolute first guy to step up and protect his teammates when things go wrong?" one fan wrote.
"Moments like this remind you how fragile everything is. Showing up for your teammate in their lowest moment is what real support looks like. Get well soon," another said.
"Sometimes a good hug is like an instant health potion but with feels," one user added.
"Draymond finally using his hands for a hug instead of a headlock… see, progress is possible," another quipped.
"Heartbreaking moment. Draymond Green hugging Moses Moody as he was stretchered off shows real team brotherhood. Wishing Moses a full and speedy recovery," one fan wrote.
"Tough moment. Draymond Green showing love to Moses Moody says a lot, but yeah, that injury still looked scary regardless," another added.
The Warriors have not yet provided a concrete update on Moody's injury as of writing. However, he is expected to miss considerable time with this gruesome injury.
