Draymond Green’s ejection raises a familiar Warriors question

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was ejected Monday night against the Phoenix Suns after drawing two technical fouls on one sequence, his first ejection of the 2026-27 season. Green shoved Suns center Khaman Maluach to the ground and then scuffled with forward Dillon Brooks.

The Warriors still rallied to win 116-113 for their fifth straight victory. No discipline had been announced in the reports available Tuesday morning.

NBC Sports Bay Area reports that Green took exception to no foul call on Maluach as the Suns center drove to the rim, and Brooks stepped in to defend his teammate. Green was assessed one technical for the shove and another for the scuffle.

Brooks received a technical too but stayed in the game. Sports Illustrated’s Suns site described Green grabbing Brooks around the throat.

Curry turned the ejection into a rally

Golden State trailed 67-57 when Green left, then scored 42 points in the third quarter.

Stephen Curry had 18 of them and said the ejection lit a fire under the team. Georges Niang broke the fourth quarter’s fifth tie with a three, and Curry finished with 34 points, capped by five free throws and a key steal.

Brooks was ejected Friday for kicking Denver’s Jamal Murray, so the league’s discipline office already has a busy few days. Jamal Murray scored 35 points in Monday’s loss to Portland, per the AP roundup. Any review of Monday’s scuffle will arrive with Brooks’ recent record in the background too.

Green’s edge is the Warriors’ best asset and biggest risk

Heavy notes that Green remains central to coach Steve Kerr’s system because of his defensive intelligence and communication. The challenge, as it puts it, is channeling his intensity without a costly distraction.

That tension matters more now. NBC Sports Bay Area describes the Warriors as already short-handed, and they were playing the second night of a back-to-back, their third game in four nights.

A suspension would remove Golden State’s defensive organizer when depth is thinnest.

Watch whether the league reviews the Brooks exchange, and how Kerr manages Green’s minutes during this stretch. The best case is that the league treats it as a double-technical incident. The worst case is a missed game that tests the five-game streak.
