The Detroit Pistons have acquired a new sharpshooter.
Duncan Robinson on Tuesday agreed to a three-year, $48M contract with the Pistons as part of a sign-and-trade, ESPN's Shams Charania reports. The Pistons will send veteran forward Simone Fontecchio to the Miami Heat in the deal.
Robinson declined his $20M player option with the Heat on Sunday. The team expressed interest in bringing him back, but he received a better offer from Detroit.
The Pistons had reportedly been negotiating a similar contract with Malik Beasley, but Charania says those talks broke down after Beasley became wrapped up in a federal gambling investigation.
Robinson is a career 39.7% three-point shooter. Beasley is one of the best three-pointer shooters in the NBA, so Detroit is hoping Robinson can replace that production.
The 31-year-old Robinson averaged 11.0 points, 2.4 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game with the Heat last season. He spent the first seven seasons of his career in Miami.
