Dwyane Wade opined on Ja Morant and his situation with the Memphis Grizzlies, and provided some advice based on his own experience with the Miami Heat.

With the Memphis Grizzlies now falling to 4-8 in their first 12 games, there is a lot of talk about Ja Morant and his future with the team.

Last week, Morant had gone off on the Grizzlies’ coaches for their tactics and how they had built their game plan around their roster.

Did Nico Harrison deserve to be fired?

For these comments, the Grizzlies suspended Ja Morant, which only furthered the tensions between him and the coaching staff.

In the aftermath, Ja Morant claimed he lost his joy, which suggested that he was set for what could be a messy split with the Grizzlies.

Dwyane Wade sympathizes with Ja Morant over Memphis Grizzlies’ issues, says he experienced the same

Dwyane Wade spoke on his podcast about the situation between Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies, and how the player usually suffers because of it.

He believes that the franchise – in this case, the Memphis Grizzlies – is a lot more protected than the player, and Ja could suffer some serious consequences because of it.

“Like I said with Jimmy, I don’t like it for the game. Everything can’t be Pleasantville, I understand that, but I know most of the time that it gets like this, the player is going to be painted as the bad guy.

“The organization gets to hide behind the shield; the player has to be out there as his name. I don’t like that for the player’s side of the game. I don’t like it overall.

“Hopefully, Ja weathers it. In real time, you just want to see Ja focus on basketball, no matter what is going on behind the scenes. We talk about not having that joy, we want to see that, and it’s unfortunate.”

Ja Morant could create a huge problem for Memphis Grizzlies

While Dwyane Wade is more sympathetic toward Ja Morant, there is a strong argument to be made that this situation doesn’t favor the Memphis Grizzlies.

In the modern NBA, superstar players hold a lot of power over their teams. And if they decide they don’t want to play for them anymore, they can force a move out with relative ease.

A team freezing out their star player isn’t an option, usually because it would mean that a large portion of their salary cap is dead weight, and would ruin their roster’s chances at competing.

Expect this saga between the Grizzlies and Ja Morant to play out over the next few weeks, where things might go from bad to worse.
