Edwards Outduels Brown As Timberwolves Top Celtics 119-115

Anthony Edwards scored 39 points, including five points in the last 45 seconds, to help the Minnesota Timberwolves hold off the Boston Celtics 119-115 on Saturday night. Edwards outdueled Jaylen Brown, who had 41 points for the Celtics in the loss. The T-Wolves’ home win snapped a three-game skid. Boston had won two in a row and five of six coming into the game.

Edwards Continues Hot Streak

Edwards is now averaging 38.5 points over his last four games. The Minnesota point guard hit five three-pointers and added five assists. He scored nine straight points at one stretch in the fourth quarter to put the Timberwolves on top 110-98 with 3:52 left in the game. After Brown led a Celtic 12-0 run to tie the game up, Edwards would take over again. He hit two free throws with 45 seconds left, then drilled a clutch three-pointer with 14 seconds left in the game and the shot clock winding down.

Julius Randle had 16 points, nine rebounds, and six assists to back Edwards. Donte DiVincenzo added 15 points and eight assists, and Rudy Gobert had 12 points and 8 rebounds. Naz Reid provided a spark off the bench with ten points, eight boards, and two blocks.

Brown’s 41 points tied a season high. He also had seven assists, six rebounds, five steals, and a blocked shot. The Celtic forward was questionable coming into the game due to back spasms, but exploded to start the game, dropping 19 points in the first quarter. He had 27 points at the half to stake Boston to a 69-59 lead. Center Neemias Queta tied a career-high with 19 points and set a new best with 18 rebounds for the Celtics. Derrick White had 16 points and five assists. Queta and White both added two blocked shots.

With the win, Minnesota improves to 11-8. They will host the San Antonio Spurs (13-5) on Sunday evening. The loss drops Boston to 10-9 on the season. The Celtics head to Cleveland for a late afternoon game against the Cleveland Cavaliers (12-8).
