Former Los Angeles Lakers player Patrick Beverley is keeping an eye on one of their hopefuls.

The LA Lakers were one of the first teams competing in Summer League this season, with the California Classic beginning on July 6.

Through two games, one player in particular has stood out, exciting prospect Cole Swider.

Swider, 26, was part of the Lakers’ Summer League roster back in 2022, and went on to play for them briefly in the NBA.

But it has been quite a journey since, where he has had short stints in Miami, Detroit, and Toronto, and is now back with the Lakers again.

Patrick Beverley backs Cole Swider

Patrick Beverley crossed paths with Cole Swider during his time in LA, and he is thrilled to see him making an impact.

Responding to a clip from the Lakers’ practice where Swider was sinking shots in front of watching teammate Dalton Knecht. Beverley gave him his backing.

He wants to see Swider get an opportunity, and believes that if he gets one, he will take it.

Beverley posted on X: “No No No, Cole diff. Cole is an Elite shot maker. if he ever gets a chance the will see.”

Cole Swider putting up numbers

Cole Swider has spent plenty of time with the South Bay Lakers, easing a potential pathway into the senior group.

Last season he signed a couple of 10-day contracts with the Toronto Raptors, and played eight games, where he averaged 7.4 points across 19 minutes.

He has stood out for the Lakers in their first two Summer League games. Swider scored 24 points from 7-10 shooting in their opener against the Warriors.

Swider followed this up with 20 points against the Heat. In both games he posted the highest score, outperforming Knecht and teammate Bronny James.

Another big game awaits, with the Lakers shortly set to take on the Mavericks and number one pick Cooper Flagg. This would be a great game to continue his scoring streak and steal the headlines.
