Elle Duncan may have been trying a little bit too hard to be provocative during Saturday’s WNBA All-Star Game.

The ESPN analyst Duncan, who specializes in the WNBA, was anchoring the network’s coverage of the All-Star Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. At halftime of the game, Duncan was providing analysis along with her co-hosts Chiney Ogwumike and Andraya Carter.

It was a high-scoring affair on Saturday during which Team Collier took an 82-60 lead over Team Clark into the break. As a result, Duncan decided to crack a joke about the lack of defense.

“We hope it gets a little bit more competitive,” said Duncan. “Because like a girls’ trip to Cancun, right now, there’s no D.”

Even Duncan’s co-hosts were not exactly feeling the wisecrack, telling her, “Elle, you’re in timeout. You’re done.”

Duncan, 42, has been at ESPN since 2016, starting off as an anchor for “SportsCenter.” She recently made the news over her beef with ESPN colleague Kirk Herbstreit, who had called out Duncan over her perceived bias as a host.

Indeed, there was not much defense played during the WNBA All-Star Game as Team Collier went on to defeat Team Clark by an absurd 151-131 final score. But in covering the game, perhaps Duncan was inspired by Shane Gillis’ recent pushing of the envelope on ESPN.
