Former Georgia Tech standout and NBA player Javaris Crittenton is back in the spotlight, but this time it’s not for basketball. Instead, he’s embroiled in a legal battle with Fulton County following a car crash that occurred in 2023. The incident, which left Crittenton seriously injured, has led him to sue the county for millions.

Crittenton, who served a 10-year sentence for the 2011 murder of Jullian Jones, was released from prison in 2023. Just two months into his newfound freedom, he found himself in a frightening situation when a Fulton County police officer in pursuit of a suspect collided with his car while he was at a stop sign. Crittenton’s lawsuit claims that the crash caused him significant injuries, and he is now seeking millions in damages from the county and its police department.

Crittenton’s journey has been marred by legal troubles. Before his prison sentence, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft. However, his career was derailed by a 2010 incident in which he brought a gun into the Washington Wizards’ locker room. After pleading guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge, Crittenton was suspended for the remainder of the season. His career took a darker turn when he was convicted for the murder of Jones in 2011, though he later negotiated a deal for an early release after serving just eight years of his sentence.

After his release, Crittenton had hoped to turn a new page by working with young basketball players, hoping to serve as an example of redemption. However, this latest incident could have set back his goals. While Crittenton fights for justice in the courtroom, his legal battle will be watched closely by both his supporters and critics alike.

As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Crittenton’s efforts to rebuild his life will be derailed once again or whether he can overcome this setback to focus on his next steps.
