In 2001, Desmond Mason rose to prominence when he became the first player from the now-defunct Seattle SuperSonics franchise to win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

Fresh from getting selected as the 17th overall pick in the 2000 NBA draft, Mason immediately made a name for himself as a rookie, defeating DeShawn Stevenson of the Utah Jazz and the Charlotte Hornets' Baron Davis in the finals.

More than two decades later, he's in the news again, but for all the wrong reasons.

Mason, now 47, was jailed in Oklahoma on Wednesday, according to TMZ Sports.

The ex-NBA player was released several hours later on a $50,000 bond.

According to the court documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Mason was booked for contempt after he allegedly did not appear at a court hearing for his divorce case with Andrea Mason.

The former NBA guard enjoyed a 10-year career with the Sonics, Milwaukee Bucks New Orleans Hornets, Oklahoma City Thunder and Sacramento Kings.

Mason averaged 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists across 643 NBA games.

He is currently working as an NBA analyst and a radio co-host for "The Franchise," a sports talk station in Oklahoma City.

He earned an estimated $37,641,002 ($58,043,395 adjusted for inflation) in his NBA career, according to Hoopshype.

In 2003, Mason joined the NBA Slam Dunk Contest again. But he lost to Jason Richardson in the finals.
