On April 16, 2024, Klay Thompson shot 0-of-10 from the floor as the Warriors lost to the Kings in the play-in and failed to make the playoffs. The game marked an anticlimactic end to Thompson's Warriors career.
Exactly a year later, Thompson shot 8-of-11 from the floor as the Mavericks beat the Kings in the play-in to keep their playoff hopes alive.
For Thompson, the jersey changed, but the demons of last year's heartbreak were exorcised nonetheless. However, it wasn't smooth sailing in the first quarter when he missed his first two shots and began to doubt himself. All that changed in the second period when he caught fire, making all five of his shots, including four threes.
"I know I didn't end my season so well last year in the same building," Thompson told "SC with SVP" after the game. "I knew once I saw one [shot] go in, and I got my feet under me, I was gonna let it go till I miss. Luckily for me, I didn't miss that quarter, which helped us separate and hold onto that lead..."
Thompson concluded his interview by breathing a sigh of relief.
"It did feel good to exercise those demons over here," he said before walking off the court in Sacramento.
Klay Thompson told he went 1-of-10 the last elimination game in Sacramento: “0-for 10, sir. Heard about it all summer.”

The Mavericks will next face the Grizzlies in the final play-in game on Friday. The winner will set up a clash with the Thunder in the first round of the playoffs. Entering the game, the Mavericks' senior statesman, Thompson, has urged his teammates to enjoy the moment and not think far ahead.
"We can hopefully continue our season," Thompson said. "We want to give the city of Dallas something to be proud of, especially with our energy and effort. We're gonna go to Memphis and lay it all out there, and that's all we can ask."
Many analysts believe the Mavericks would have been a legitimate title contender if not for Kyrie Irving's season-ending ACL injury. With Irving expected to make a full recovery at some point next year, the Mavericks will be a force to be reckoned with in the 2026 postseason.
