The Milwaukee Bucks tip off Summer League play tonight at 8:30 CT against Denver. Populating the roster are several familiar faces, such as Tyler Smith, Andre Jackson Jr., and Chris Livingston, alongside undrafted college invites and a six-year NBA veteran. 47th overall pick Bogolijub Markovic will be there. So will undrafted free agent signing Mark Sears. One expert believes the latter is Milwaukee’s player to watch during the four-game Summer League slate.
Just 19, Markovic may or may not make the roster. There has been talk of a “stash” year overseas, where the Serbian big has spent his professional career.
The Bucks’ other, unofficial draft add, signed shortly after the second round concluded, was Sears. As a point guard, he has a real opportunity for playing time in an area of need. To handle duties at the point, Milwaukee has so far secured Kevin Porter Jr. and Ryan Rollins, who combined to average 5.6 assists per game for the Bucks last season. Both should see bigger roles in 2025-26, but the team could definitely use some depth.
One of the best names remaining after going undrafted, Sears was something of a steal. An All-American first teamer his last year at Alabama, he averaged 18.6 points and 5.1 assists as the Crimson Tide splashed their way through an Elite 8 run. By making 10 of them himself, Sears helped his team drain an NCAA record 25 three-pointers in the Sweet 16 against BYU.
Says ESPN analyst Jeremy Woo: “Sears, a two-way signee out of Alabama, has a pathway to back-end roster value if he can make enough shots and produce this summer in spite of his lack of size. He should presumably get the keys to the summer league offense as a starting point.”
The opening is there. The young Buck actually underwent a dropoff compared to his 2023-24 compaign, when he produced at higher volume and efficiency. Despite being only 6-foot-1, a touch small even for a point guard, the 23-year-old nonetheless remains an intriguing prospect who could contribute immediately in the rotation.
While Markovic may have a higher ceiling, Sears is more likely to impact the upcoming season. It isn’t suprising to see him at the forefront of names the national media will monitor in Bucks Summer League action.
