Jalen Williams was a beast in the 2025 NBA Finals. He still continues to get praises for his performance, but the reveal of his wrist injury added more flair to it. That story of J-Dub playing through injury has certainly amazed plenty of spectators to begin with. But what’s more impressive about that is what we should expect ahead from the Thunder star.

Coming off a shocking wrist surgery, it seems that Jalen Williams’ stats are headed for a major leap in the coming 2025-26 NBA season. After all, he’s just entering his fourth year in the NBA. This just means that he is due for more improvements with the team and more skills to discover. This is the path towards growth and greatness, and J-Dub is making a leap now more than ever.

Expect a Jump in Thunder Star’s Stats This Coming Season

Fresh off signing a five-year extension worth $287 million, Williams is hopeful for a bigger leap this season, too. After all, J-Dub has earned his place in OKC’s rotation as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander‘s second man. This just means more expectations are coming his way in the 2025-26 campaign.

Is Williams Ready for a Big Leap?

The 2024-25 season marked the first time that J-Dub has averaged more than 20 points in his career. He was averaging 21.6 points per game last season—where he played his fewest games in a season with OKC at 69 games. Still, Jalen Williams’ stats took a jump with career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks per game.

Usually, star players get a big leap in their third and fourth years in the NBA. SGA, for instance, was already closing in on 25 points per game in his fourth year. After that? He went on to average more than 30 points in three straight seasons. J-Dub, on the other hand, could benefit from a well-rested wrist surgery, whose injury (unnoticeably) bothered him in the 2025 NBA Playoffs.

Williams, entering his fourth year in the league, stands at a big chance to prove his worth. The Santa Clara product will go down as one of the best players to have a big break in the NBA Finals. Remember that pivotal Game 5 win where he scored 40 points? That was a hint of what he could bring to the table. It was a show of what we can expect from him in the coming years of his bright career.

A Big J-Dub Season Loading Up

In the NBA Finals alone, Jalen Williams’ stats were highly impressive. He averaged 23.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 43.3% shooting. So when Thunder GM Sam Presti revealed that he suffered a torn wrist ligament before the playoffs began, many people looked back on his games. It can be remembered that he had some off-nights, especially in that West Semis against the Denver Nuggets.

Still, Williams found ways—many different ways—to play through the pain. Of course, it was a matter of missing out the entire postseason, or taking a risk. That risk paid off for J-Dub, and now he’s an NBA champion, making his sacrifice totally worth it.

The 6-foot-6 forward powered through it all. Of course, we have seen him struggle with scoring consistency. A lot of J-Dub discussions were seen on the internet before the Thunder won the NBA Finals. Sure, those were valid arguments at the time. But seeing how his numbers dipped when no one knew of a real injury—it was definitely a game-changer for all now more than ever.

The Last Word On Jalen Williams’ Potential Leap

Oklahoma City is known well for its ability to develop young talent. At the age of 24, Williams is barely in his prime years in the NBA. There’s a lot of young players growing around him as well, starting with potential Thunder star Chet Holmgren. Still, his recent work on the court and in the gym means that there’s progress to expect. He’s going to be perfectly healthy entering the 2025-26 season—the Thunder’s title defense year. Oh, and he’s seen taking off the right wrist brace, which he wore for most of the offseason after getting the surgery.

Barring injury, J-Dub is definitely cruising for yet another star campaign, and you can expect his numbers to take a massive rise as well. This is his time to shine once more. There’s a lot of growth that we can hope for heading into this year when it comes to his career.
