Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg is back in the headlines again. The Mavericks shut down Flagg, 18, after two NBA Summer League games, but Flagg’s presence continues to be present. The first Flagg Mavericks jersey sold for nearly $100,000. Here’s what you need to know about the near six-figure jersey.

Cooper Flagg Jersey Sells for Nearly $100,000

Cooper Flagg has yet to play in an NBA regular-season game but has been generating significant hype. Sotheby’s NBA-sanctioned auction for Flagg’s first jersey, the white Summer League jersey from the matchup against Bronny James and the Los Angeles Lakers, which sold for $92,250.Flagg’s jersey was unsigned, which would make one wonder what it could’ve sold for had Flagg signed it and what his official game-used jerseys would sell for.

Flagg described the game against James, 20, who wore that jersey in one of the worst performances of his professional basketball career. The 18-year-old scored 10 points and added six rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one block, but shot just 5-21 from the field. Flagg followed up with a spectacular 31-point performance on 10-20 shooting during his second Summer League game. The former Duke star also dominated the floor on both ends.

Cooper Flagg’s Outlook Heading Into 2025-26

Cooper Flagg’s outlook appears to be bright heading into the 2025-26 NBA season. Some rookies come in hot, and Flagg might do the same. Flagg’s a rather versatile forward who might fit into Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd’s vision of a Grant Hill-type of player who can have the ball in his hands, despite being a wing and making plays for others.

Hill, 52, is the Vice Chair of the Board for the Atlanta Hawks and a former NBA player who played for the Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, and Los Angeles Clippers. The former small forward and shooting guard was selected No. 3 overall in the first round of the 1994 NBA Draft out of Duke.

Flagg can become a starting small forward alongside De’Angelo Russell, Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, and Dereck Lively II. This potential lineup lacks sufficient spacing and playmaking, so Flagg would have to make improvements in both categories to be successful.

Final Thoughts

Cooper Flagg’s path to NBA Rookie of the Year is possible, but there are already roadblocks. However, Flagg is reportedly embracing both pressure and growth with the Dallas Mavericks. We’ll see what happens. In the meantime, Miles Kelly and Moussa Cisse are other Maverick rookies to keep an eye on.

Kelly, 22, is currently on a two-way contract with the Mavericks, while Cisse, 22, is on an Exhibit 10 contract. Kelly’s certainly capable of stringing together buckets in a short period of time. Cisse’s rebounding can lead to lots of second chances on the offensive end, but offense isn’t his specialty, so he may or may not be signed to a two-way deal soon.
